Is it any coincidence that I have felt more energised and during the last ten weeks when I began eating a keto diet in an effort to lose weight after my miscarriage. I’m over 200 pounds, I’m sick of elasticated trousers, and I want to feel fitter. About three weeks ago, I couldn’t even finish the kettlebell workout, but I’ve pushed myself and I definitely feel fitter in just three weeks.
Supplements wise, I discovered Plant Pills and have been taking just under 1g of whole foods Spermidine (five pills), and 2.5g of Kamut Wheatgrass juice powder. The quality of these supplements is great. I’m incorporating about five HIIT workouts per week between 15 to 40 minutes and burning about 170 to 350 calories. I can’t seem to ever train in ‘fat burning’ range of heart rate during exercise. Even during a walk, my heart rate is between 150 to 180, so I’m always working out to my maximum. A good sweat is great for the skin. I love the after workout glow. What I have noticed since starting the keto diet and reducing all bread, pasta, rice etc is that my bowel movements have been very clean. My previous constipation is almost gone.
I’m breastfeeding during this Keto diet, and little G will be 21 months at the end of this month. She loves it, I need to drink plenty of water and decaffeinated earl grey and coffee, and I eat at least one keto friendly chocolate chip lactation cookie per day. I made some coffee fat bombs too, but it was a nightmare to keep them at the perfect texture. I froze them, but I wanted them a little softer, but they melted in the fridge. Doh! If I get some time next week, I intend to make a keto friendly carrot cake and psyllium husk crackers because I miss eating liver pate.

I know that it’s not recommended to drink milk during a ketogenic diet, but I’m still having at least 500ml of raw milk per day. I very rarely have any food cravings, but I do try to have eggs in the morning or late afternoon, and plenty of salads during the week with olives, avocados, feta cheese (or cheddar), fried mushrooms, hard boiled egg, and drizzle of olive oil. According to the ketone breath meter, I’m rarely in ketosis unless I take a tablespoon of MCT oil with my meal and my highest score has been 25. However, whether I’m in ketosis or not, my appetite is suppressed. Even after an intensive workout, either from my Concept 2 rower, or kettlebells, I have no hunger pangs. If I’m not in ketosis, what is going on in my body? I would love to melt off the fat off my belly, butt, and thighs, but it’s proving more difficult for me. In ten weeks, I’ve not given into a packet of crisps, a chocolate bar, shop bought carrot cake, or chips with blue cheese. I’m very disciplined.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m eating enough calories, especially when I’m still breastfeeding where it’s recommended to eat an extra 500 calories. I’m trying to drink at least 3 litres of water per day through lemon water and decaffeinated earl grey and coffee.
Even though I haven’t had the dream weight loss (my target weight is 80kg), I am keeping up with the keto diet and the HIIT workouts. It might take me six months to a year to see results, but I also would love to get pregnant again in this time zone, so I will have to take it a little easier if hubby and I are blessed to experience another natural pregnancy at 44.
